German-Georgian Lawyers’ Association

The German-Georgian Lawyers’ Association (DGeoJV) is a bilateral organization dedicated to promoting legal dialogue and cooperation between Germany and Georgia. Its overarching goal is to contribute to the development of a modern legal system in Georgia based on the rule of law and, in particular, to support approximation to European legal standards.

Conversation between Prof. Dr. Stephan J. Lang and Prof. Dr. Roin Migriauli about the start of the DGeoJV.
Its work focuses on the exchange between lawyers from both countries. The DGJV regularly organizes specialist conferences, workshops and seminars on current legal topics, bringing together representatives from the judiciary, administration, academia and the legal profession. In addition to professional exchange, the DGJV actively supports legal reforms in Georgia. It contributes German legal expertise, promotes comparative law between German and Georgian laws and advises Georgian institutions – particularly with regard to the basic principles of the rule of law, separation of powers, transparency and independence of the judiciary.
The association also focuses on legal education and training. It supports young lawyers through scholarships, internship programs and academic exchange formats. Joint research projects and publications between German and Georgian universities are also supported. Overall, the DGJV acts as an important bridge for the long-term development of a sustainable network between the legal communities of both countries.
